I am happy to announce that I will be working with Strange Company on their upcoming film, “BloodSpell.” I will be producing all foley / sound effects for the film, and will be overseeing production of the musical score, which will include the work of other artists as well as my own. Pretty exciting opportunity. There has been a lot of talk about The Sims 2 as well as Lionhead’s The Movies amongst what I’d term more “traditional” machinima makers (and I’m no exception here), referring to those platforms almost with disdain because of the ease with which one can turn out a film in those engines. It’s not a stance against ease itself as much as it is a response to the resultant quantity of what many consider to be “lower quality” films which are the by-product of this production ease.
I can still remember when loop-based music (i.e. Acid) really started to become popular. I distinctly remember myself and fellow musicians immediately dismissing the whole notion as somehow “cheating” the musical process. “Music for Morons” and other such epithets. To someone who had worked and slaved to compose music in traditional ways, the acid genre seemed like a slap in the face. (more…)

To be worthy of; merit.
We’ve been having quite a lively discussion on the Machinima.com forums about the nature of the review and rating process, the pros and cons and so on. During the course of that debate, a word got introduced into the discussion which I’ve seen used elsewhere in similar context: deserve. As in, this or that film (or filmmaker) is deserving of a more prominent place in the public eye. (more…)
