Blood Work
I am happy to announce that I will be working with Strange Company on their upcoming film, “BloodSpell.” I will be producing all foley / sound effects for the film, and will be overseeing production of the musical score, which will include the work of other artists as well as my own. Pretty exciting opportunity. I’ll keep you posted by way of this blog, though the meat of the production blogging will occur on the BloodSpell production journal some time after I begin work on Monday.
Elsewhere, MuNansen has followed up with another excellent blog post, talking about the next step for machinima to move forward. I agree with his vision in principle, but I don’t think that an All-Star team is necessarily the answer. Rather, I think a more fluid kind of sharing and interaction between experienced machinimators is more in tune with the new paradigm. I know he’s not necessarily suggesting the literal formaton of a “Dream Team,” but that IS kind of the logical outcome of his plea. I’m not nearly as well spoken as Nathan on this topic, as I haven’t yet given it the kind of thought that he has, but I’ll return to this later if I can find the words to convey what I’m envisioning instead.
Doc Nemesis witnessed some guys getting arrested right in front of his house this week. Which is strange, because anyone with a lick of sense knows that the cops are watching his front door, and the only safe way to approach his domicile is through the back gate or via the bat cave.
I remember a fight I witnessed in high school in the locker room; one kid starting punching another, and then kind of went all Dionysus and started punching everyone he could reach. Like a mosh pit, but with no music and half the people wearing nothing but their skivvies. It was surreal. I’ll bet if you look hard enough, you could find some viral video clip of someone coming completely and violently unglued like this. Or, if Google shows you no love, you could always just read this thread, which is almost as unnerving.

I should’ve made more clear in my blog that I’m not saying “We need to do this now,” as opposed to cooperating more, which we do need to do NOW, but was presenting a the idea for a “Dream Team,” as you put it, and asking the reader when, if ever, this should happen.
I like the idea, but don’t think we’re at the point where we NEED to do it. Though I wonder if that might make it the very best time to do it. Perhaps solidifying our front before the big push into the mainstream.

There is definitely truth and wisdom in a “Come Together” mindset right now. Good things will happen the more we find ways to do so, that’s for sure.

Congratulations on the work with Bloodspell. I imagine it should be a challenge and a pleasure at the same time. If there is anything I can help with, please let me know.
My take on Mu’s point was more philosophical; the idea of cooperation is often lost in the shuffle. I think it would be great if we could all get on the bus, but look at my challenge to the Los Angeles Machinima Collective - did anyone respond? No. It takes time and relationships to build before this can happen, I think. But, Mu’s dead right about doing it together. Simply on a practical level, the production work need to do a good machinima really requires a team of people. That’s why I’ve been offering my work to select groups in order to develop relationships and learn how to work on a team. But, I think you guys already know all this.
PS The Flesh Eaters on DVD: one of the best worst films I have ever seen. DVDbeaver has a review. Here:

Sorry for the long post: too much coffee.
