“Live” Theatre, moo Money, and the Pope

Filed under: Machinima — Overman @ 3:20 pm

I’ve never heard of anything quite like this happening before. Maybe it has and I just missed it… but recently a group of folks received an assignment (presumably for a drama class): play a theatric scene in an “unusual environment.” Kind of sounds like Tyler Durden homework, doesn’t it?

So they gathered in World of Warcraft, and played out the balcony scene from Romeo & Juliet - get this - in front of a live audience of other WoW players! Audience members showed their approval by displays of magic, and even gave the actors a tip of WoW gold. Read all about it here. The only bummer is that, apparently, no one caught this on film, but the YouTube link on this blog at least shows a slideshow of annotated screenshots.

Now I know Ill Clan are already pioneering “live” performances in front of live audiences, but this event caught my attention because EVERYTHING took place in a virtual environment. Pretty intriguing concept, isn’t it?

Fans of machinima-themed audio blogs (besides this one, of course) might find Machinimoo’s foray into the genre a quick and interesting listen. “moo Money” is the Community Manager of Alt-Zoom Studios (Second Life), and I think she does a great job and has a very nice voice for this kind of thing. She talks a bit about the Take5 Machinima Festival in Second Life, which has some very nice prizes (in Lindens, of course).

One more thought for now. Guys and gals embroiled in the Sims99 censorship controversy? You are not alone. An inspirational story of Tristan Pope’s bump against the “adult content” barrier.
