As some of you know from tuning in either here or here, my Digital Audio Workstation has been out of commission after, apparently, being worked to death. You know, it’s funny… when I first got that workhorse PC right at one year ago, for the first few months I’d fiddle a little bit here, a little bit there. Purely recreational use.
Needless to say, I got hooked. And it fast became a part of daily (or nightly, rather) routine.
So can I just say, after having been deprived of her (yes, the DAW is a she) for basically two weeks while she visits California… this sucks, and it’s not getting any easier with time, in spite of what my Sponsor says. (more…)
So why abandon Gumbo? Why not finish what I started? (more…)
Technical Issues
Have you ever thought about what what it might have been like to be a filmmaker in your prime in the mid to late 1930’s? To have thought about cinematography issues for the first half of your career in reference to black and white film and then trying to achieve mastery of color… it must have been a big challenge indeed.
Such is the nature of the situation Gumbo faces as we lurch into this new millenium. A lot has changed, and most of the changes are very very good indeed. (more…)
I’ve got a really difficult decision to make that has really been weighing on me lately. I don’t know why it bugs me so much; it could be just pure pride, a stubborn unwillingness to admit something that should come much easier. I’m not sure.
When I took my extended leave from machinima in 2000, I left a project in progress, a Quake 2 machinima film-to-be entitled Gumbo. Naturally, when I returned a little over seven months ago, the most logical place to resume my filmmaking seemed to be resumption of that abandoned project. And I’ve been working on it, slowly but surely, ever since, trying to bring that piece into the “modern age” of machinima. I even included a teaser trailer for it at the beginning of Thresh vs. Billox (full match version).
I am of the growing conviction that it would be best for me (and believe it or not, best for machinima, too) to just abandon Gumbo and move forward with other machinima things.
Over the next few blog entries, I’m going to get into the nitty gritty of the decision. Your feedback along the way is, of course, welcome. (more…)
