DAW Shucks

Filed under: Machinima — Overman @ 8:46 am

As some of you know from tuning in either here or here, my Digital Audio Workstation has been out of commission after, apparently, being worked to death. You know, it’s funny… when I first got that workhorse PC right at one year ago, for the first few months I’d fiddle a little bit here, a little bit there. Purely recreational use.

Needless to say, I got hooked. And it fast became a part of daily (or nightly, rather) routine.

So can I just say, after having been deprived of her (yes, the DAW is a she) for basically two weeks while she visits California… this sucks, and it’s not getting any easier with time, in spite of what my Sponsor says.

Friday “her” motherboard was replaced, and apparently they were able to get the PC up and running without issue once that was replaced. Today is a battery of stress tests to make sure that really was the reason for the shutdowns. Things are looking really good for a return some time this week.

And I’m convinced that God is laughing and slapping his knee even as I rejoice, as apparently Ernesto is also planning on paying me a visit this week, gleeful at the possibility of depriving the whole peninsula of power. (Actually, Ernesto looks likely to be a bit of a weakling, or he will be once he’s run the gauntlet of the Cuban isle.)

In other news, 3dfilmmaker has made a triumphant return to regular blogging, after a month of silence that I’ll confess had me anxious. Good to have you back, Ken.

Over at the BloodSpell Production Journal, I wrote up the sound-related “Did You Know” for Episode 7, if that interests you.

Lady Mainframe is back after a dramatic makeover. I’ve downloaded, looking forward to watching it tonight in hi-res.

I’ve also booked my flight / hotel for the Machinima Film Festival. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you there!

  1. How’s Ernesto Phil? I was hoping you would record yourself sitting outside in a lawn chair with some sunglasses on, drinking a beer and a listening to Riders on the Storm over and over again as Ernesto passes overhead. Gotta get some panning shots of the Ewoks tied to trees.

Write that on a sticky note for next time.

    Be safe.

  2. Well, how do I put this… do you remember how Tyson-McNeeley was hyped up in 1995 to be a big fight? Do you remember the letdown of watching all 89 seconds of that bout? That’s Ernesto. Pete has more “Hurricane” than Ernesto, and that ain’t much.

Now, I’m told we have yet to feel the fullness of its wrath… but right now, this is still tolerable weather for golf, for the serious player at least.

    Ernesto, de nada.

  4. Well, see? It all worked out okay… ;)
I don’t fault Ernesto or Mother Nature. I fault the Channel 4 weatherman. I’d swear he WANTS it to be a disaster, the fearmongering S.O.B.
