NY Times: Talent Agency is Aiming to Find Web Video Stars

Wow! Read the fine print, you’ll find they are not just talking about LonelyGirl15 and the like. They’re talking about writers, directors, producers… and yes, actors too.

This, coupled with all that’s going on in Second Life (here, here, here, and elsewhere), is confirmation: something big is on the verge of happening (if it hasn’t begun already). Time to get your house in order; I think we’re going to be seeing a lot more foot traffic. (If you’re up for a solid food take on part of what “getting your house in order” means, Buddy smashes the nail on the head.)

Hopefully the lighthouse will finish her repairs soon; it would be a massive shame to miss this. (Might be time to listen to this guy, if they’re not already).

  1. Yeah the guy that financed the soda commercial demo called me today about this stuff. He knows someone at the agency and pitched machinima to them a year ago. Guess we were just early.

  2. A related-esque article called, ‘The YouTube Effect’ by Ben Mcgrath running in ‘The New Yorker’ (10/16/06) may also be worth your read.

Focuses mainly on Video bloggers, but some interesting tidbits on YouTube and its mechanics. As well as, a little nugget on how a film gets featured (you might be interested). Worth finding, its part of the ‘Media Issue’.

  3. I’ve been spending some time in SL. I wouldn’t be surprised if RL’s economy isn’t growing faster than China’s. Virtual holdings like Linden dollars aren’t taxed as income while remaining super liquid. Australia is the first country to propose a tax on virtual income. Looks like the moratorium on taxing the internet might be coming to end with the government in a postition to loose tax revenues. Maybe alot. I want to paid in Linden dollars from now on that’s for sure. Amazing: RL expenses on the books but no RL revenues to report, always a tax loss. Too good to be true!

I also predict a SL intrest rate within the next year. One of Linden Labs biggest challenges is maintaing a healthy economy. It’s all so fast and so nuts. I love it!
