Footage

Filed under: Machinima — Overman @ 10:47 am

Thank goodness machinima “film” is free, huh? Or at least relatively so. I do not envy a traditional filmmaker on a budget, forced to be ultra-conservative with the feet of film consumed.

I have been a mad video capturing fool over the past week as the forthcoming music video kicks into high gear, and this time I’m doing it right: 1024×768 capture at 60 fps. Before this shoot is finished I’ll likely exceed 100 gig of source footage, and this after pruning any “bad” takes. Alternate takes, lighting, and angles; it’s going to give me so much freedom when it comes time to edit.

And I’m also making a point to do something this time around which I sorely neglected with prior projects: I’m making a point to capture some high res production stills while filming is going on. Fraps has been very helpful in this regard. Such superior quality versus trying to extract frames from the film itself.

As soon as filming is complete, I plan on doing an Overcast before going back into the hole to edit this thing. Thanks for your patience in that regard.

  1. I’ll be interested to hear how this approach pans out for you once you get to editing. I must admit, on BloodSpell I shot less and less alternate footage as time went on - it was easier to edit minimal footage then pick up any additional shots later. But obviously you’re working with a different engine (which one?) and a different style.

BTW, I’ll mail you about BloodSpell Feature-Length soon - we’ve got a very cool opportunity we’re aiming to hit in about 4-5 months.
