  1. Text, Drugs & Rock ‘n’ Roll - An insightful analysis of interactive storytelling, how it is most in tune with who we are as beings and what we expect from life.
  2. Free Pixel - What makes a machinima film ‘good’? See the comments, too!
  3. mPATHx - I’ve been following development on this piece of hardware for a few years; I’m told it is now very close to hitting market. Could be tremendously valuable for anyone who deals with a lot of onboard gear for either music or even machinima and home entertainment setups.
  4. FILM: A GMan Story (Take 2) - It’s rough. It’s downright amateurish. And it’s a JOY to watch. (particularly for fans of the Half-Life series of games, like me)
  5. Paul Lewis’ iClone Character Creation Video Tutorials - A master iClone character designer, and a great teacher.
  6. iClone 2.5 Video Tutorials by James Martin - Ready your pause button, these tutorials are traveling at the Speed Of James. Phenomenal stuff.
  7. Video Tutorials on Google Sketchup from the author of Google SketchUp for Dummies
  8. Torley Linden’s Guide to High Quality Second Life Photography - Very useful info for those wanting to capture a good image in this virtual world.

  1. Re: mPATHx - seems like an awful lot of hype and time in development for what is basically a rackmount switching power supply/PDU, but maybe my EE background just makes me cynical.

  2. Great collection of links, Phil. I love it when you do this. Please put these together more often. I think I’ll do the same for the machiniplex blog.

I like the Gman story film, too, despite the tech limitations. You know, IClone is being being overshadowed by Moviestorm quite a bit recently, but they’ve got some great new stuff coming in the new year. IClone 3.0 + new Crazy Talk. I was reading an article about IClone hooking up with a new, cheap mo-cap program coming out next year that sounds amazing. Where’s that link? ah..here:

Animazoo is the name of the company.

The advantage IClone has is that it’s been in development longer than Moviestorm. I dont’ think it’s as easy to use as MS, but it’s still quite a useful and interesting program for the machinima filmmaker. With the coming upgrades it will be even better.

  3. PS I don’t seem to get updates at Free Pixel, so I didn’t realize the debate and comments had continued there. I’ve update my comments today. I hope others will read and respond to Michael’s excellent post on “what makes a machinima film good”? I think the debate is a good one and I think represents some of the current problems/solutions to contemporary machinima filmmaking.
