Like Clockwork

Filed under: Machinima — Overman @ 8:39 am

Today is the premiere of Clockwork, an Amorphous Blob Production which gave me another great opportunity to work alongside Ricky Grove. I made the music for the film, and Ricky handled the sound effects and overall mix. We’d done this once before for Andre Pesch’s The Days After, and again for Frank Fox’s Morning Run Amok. I don’t want to embarrass Ricky here - and this isn’t anything I haven’t at least in some way tried to communicate to him privately as well - but this pairing of he and I is the most creatively fulfilling collaboration experience I’ve ever had. It just clicks.

Frank, played by Phil Rice

In this particular film, we got to voice act opposite one another as well, and my thanks to Nefarious Guy for casting us the way he did. It was great fun; I really love a good villain role.

The cast and crew will be getting together for a live premiere and chat in Second Life later today, at which I’m sure we’ll go into more detail about the experience of working on this film. I also plan to go into some more detail on my approach to the musical score, how I prepared myself, the tools I employed and what I was trying to achieve. I’m sure we’ll try to record that conversation, but for the full experience please feel free to come out and join us at Hathead’s place in SL. Details on the where and when are available at the Machiniplex blog.

Hope to see you there!

  1. Thanks, Phil. I have exactly the same feeling. Working on Clockwork was a joy. When we added your music, it felt like the whole production just kicked up a notch or two. Great work. And I thought your acting work was excellent. The variety you brought to your various voice takes allowed for a wide range of choices in performance. I hope we can put together a “blue reel” some day with all of the foul language you and I tried on both our voice takes. Of course, we couldn’t keep it in, but it felt good in the take!

“Clockwork” is now streaming at the machiniplex.com site. New flash encoder is slow but really delivers a quality look. Also tried out a version of the film in-world last night at Hathead’s Lounge and while it’s not as good as the streaming version, it is decent.

We’ll screen the film around 4:30 (once everyone settles down) and then have an open chat between you, me and Harrison (Nefarious Guy).

Looking foward to it! Clockwork has become a real favorite of mine.

  2. The premiere was a lot of fun and there was a great turn out! I think everyone enjoyed the movie. I just wanted to say that making this film was an amazing learning experience for me and I really appreciate all the care and hard work you and Ricky poured into it. The level of dedication on both of your parts blew me away and I think it really shows in the final product. I also wanted to say thanks for not holding back on the critiques and suggestions. We all wanted to the make the film the best it could be and the collaborative nature of the project was the most rewarding part for me. Thanks again!
