So I Ran Over a Monkey

It was an accident, okay??

A film made with Bioware's Mass Effect

Embed + link is just below the (more) so it doesn't break the format of the blog's home page. Enjoy!

Rated PG for a wee bit of coarse language.

As a treat to my blog readers, I'm embedding the nicer quality Vimeo version here. If you're dying to see it on YouTube (technically its primary venue), it's available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otHSV6f2-Nc

I think we have some of those monkeys in Kentucky. Come up sometime and we'll go for a joyride. ;) Nice work!

Lucky for all of us, that instead of letting all of this praise go to your head, you're more than living up to it. Again, brilliant.

Nice stuff. Great comic timing, generally very entertaining.

If I had to make a criticism, I'd say that the "monkeys exploding" section went on a little too long. But 'twas still darn funny.

Very funny stuff. Nice work on blending live footage with machinima, too. That was very smooth.

this is disgusting, and probably inappropriate but what the heck.

Okay, you know the phrase "shit's and giggles" ?
well I just laughed so hard I farted

that is all.

Great work and directing all round. You facial expressions @ at the end had me howling out loud!

Should have taken off and nuked it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Oh, God, what a wonderful comic gem. I don't think I've laughed as hard at any other film you've made. Your acting in the final "guilty" section was priceless. Very well cut together, witty, and off the wall. Great work.

I don't think a moment of the film should be changed. So glad to see "game machinima" from you again, Phil. Considering there are no tools for this game, your imagination and deft use of console commands and fraps is an inspiration (have I said your films are an inspiration before?). Marvellous!

Yes, it is funny, clever, Phily. Excellent acting. Using game is not something that makes me happy, but Phil's crafts always does.

Well done, sir! It's like a one-man Jerry Springer In Outer Space! Kudos!

Its good to see the engine being used for machinima.

Loved it.

I agree that some parts may have gone on a tad too long, but it was still pretty hilarious. The "remember my name" bit had me cracking up to the point where my wife was giving me strange looks.

"Remember my name, b*tches! Shepard!"

Hilarious! Damn acid breathing monkeys, hiding important things in mine shafts... great stuff, made greater by having played through the game myself. Loved it!

Hilarious!

Clever comedic cinematograpahy style as well.

This really had to be made with the game engine to work, didn't it?

Overman's picture

@Russell, yes I think it really did. I'd have never conceived of this particular idea outside the context provided by the game.

Thanks!
