It’s a reward for sure, but it’s even more. Some of these subtle details can enhance the experience of the movie on the fly.
Viewers who are tuned into the subject matter will get a subconscious or subliminal prod to bring them more under the spell.
Fans who watch the movie many times will have new things to experience.
The viewers who are also filmmakers (i.e. those watching with a critical mind) will spot these details and just think they are plain cool!
Then, you get the nerds who just love collecting Easter Eggs :)
