@Ricky - I found myself wondering the same thing, perhaps in part motivated by the deliberately "low-fi" animation style Mayer used here. There would certainly be some challenges, but I think iClone and/or perhaps some combination of platforms might be able to a least get in the neighborhood. Or maybe Blender's real-time components would be better suited.

Lovely film. The style is such a great combination of whimsy and weird. Sound effects and music are remarkable. Thanks for posting about this, Phil.
It occurred to me while watching: could you make a film like this using machinima techniques? Would it look as good? I wonder if you'd have to sacrifice anything to shoot it in a real-time environment?

@ Phil and Ricky -- funny. I thought the same thing too! but... I don't think it's possible right now -- something in the fluidity of the movement -- and I'm not sure if we should even be striving for that with what we've got. Might be like trying to make skirt steak with cake mix.
