OverByte #20

  1. Cambridge Film Festival 2009: Machinima - Programming with Light - It's happening on the 25th of this month. Did I miss a Call For Entries? I don't recall reading anything about this.
  2. uFail - iPhone app made with Moviestorm - My buddy Sam Midwood has been putting Moviestorm to really creative use, and he might even make a few bucks in the process! I did some sound design and music work for this project. My favorite is this one, where I did a gameshow music theme. So cheesy.
  3. YouTube in Talks with Movie Studios to Rent Movies - A very interesting development (and one I think could be very successful for them). I hope they continue their trend of opening opportunities like this up to independent content developers too.
  4. Sims99 New Features - Looks like they're finding some fun and machinima-centric ways to celebrate what they consider their best work / directors.
  5. AnimaTechnica's iClone Tutorial - A fascinating look at the production pipeline for machinima made with iClone.
  6. Machinima For Dummies online - Now a part of Google Books, you can read it for free online.
  7. Mafia II - Denby Grace interview / walkthrough - A nice pair of videos providing more insight and footage from this upcoming title.
  8. I made a vow to myself not too long ago to never again engage in a "What is Machinima" debate, but if the topic is still of interest to you, there are interesting conversations going on in the comments of this blog and this blog. No one's saying anything that hasn't been stated before, but it's good civil discussion.

First I've heard about the Cambridge film festival machinima programme too, Phil.

...erm

"The programme will include films by renowned Machinima directors, including Lainy Voom and Phil Rice."

^ That's weird.

Cool beans about Machinima for Dummies being online. I misplaced my copy a while back. Some pretty good tips in there, quite a few actually that can be applied to any form of filmmaking.
