OverByte #21

  1. First Group of Films to Screen at the Expo Announced - The Expo blog has a new look, if you haven't seen it.
  2. Mike Jones: "The 'Film Look' is a Crock..." - I thought from the title that I was at last going to come upon a Mike Jones post that I vehemently disagreed with, but it was not to be. Like Kate, I puzzle over what got him worked up on this subject, though.
  3. Machiniplex3: Audio & Text from Machiniplex Premiere of "9" - Very interesting Q&A with a true machinima innovator.
  4. Cambridge Film Festival 2009 - Hugh Hancock is introducing the machinima screenings, which include my Blast Supper and Thy Neighbor. Yay!
  5. Fantoche International Animation Film Festival 2009 - Male Restroom Etiquette is celebrating its third birthday by being featured in a machinima segment at this event in Switzerland! Double yay!
  6. DEMOSCENE: The Art of Real-Time - Now available as an eBook. This is a history of the "machinima" that came WAY before "machinima" was a word, and way before Quakemovies or any videogame-rooted movie-making. And that scene is still very much around today.
  7. Tutorial: Blender 3D: Noob to Pro/Build a skybox - Nice tutorial on creating your own skyboxes that don't look like... well, you know, BOXES. Created in Blender, but the resulting images are useable in any game or engine that makes use of skyboxes (most of them do).
  8. Congratulations to Chantal Harvey, who is now the Machinima Producer (a paying gig) for the 48-Hour Film Project!
