Bioware Hires Lit Fuse Duo

Filed under: Machinima — Overman @ 6:04 am

Zachariah Scott and Robert Steinmann of Lit Fuse Films have been hired by the New York Yankees of machinima, Bioware. Mu Nansen’s from Jersey, at least most recently, so the Yanks metaphor might really rub him wrong :), but I mean it in every positive connotation you can think of. The champions. The best. And they’ve just added two more all-star players to their roster - pending work visas, of course.

I want to congratulate not only Zach and Robert, for a well-earned gig, but Bioware as well, for continuing to show that they know how to pick from the very best.

I’m sad about the likely impact on Lit Fuse output; Robert doth protest that they are “hardcore,” but if there’s anything the past year has taught us about “going pro” it’s that indie film output really dries up big time when you do. Lamentable (because I love their films) but also understandable. I hope Rob is right, maybe it’ll be different if these guys are just insane zealous.

In any case, it’s magnificently good news, and hearty congratulations again to Zach, Rob, and Bioware. Well done!

The New Overcast

Filed under: Machinima — Overman @ 8:00 am

This entry by Sam Midwood (a.k.a. Zuckerman) came in late for the deadline, but it was really terrific so I asked him to rework it to formally announce the change which is coming to The Overcast. Starting with the May 30 show, The Overcast is slated to change from “approxiweekly” to a firmer “biweekly” podcast. Every other Friday. But the biggest change of all is that The Overcast will now have a regular co-host. The clever Moviestorm video below, titled “Being John Machinima,” reveals who that will be.

Enjoy! And enjoy more of Sam’s excellent work at his Moviestorm director’s page.

Coverage around the globe…

Is someone going to come clean about being the person who was blaring the Rick Astley song during the awards? I thought it was Baron goofing around, but I was wrong.

Bitfilm Gems 2008

Filed under: Animation, Machinima — Overman @ 12:12 pm

Those of you on The ZS Forum have probably already seen the posts I’ve been doing recently, highlighting some of my favorite work submitted at the Bitfilm Festival this year. I don’t typically post a lot about entries in the machinima category, mainly because you are likely more familiar with those anyway. I will say there are some really excellent machinima entries this year, some which you’ve probably never heard of and need to see, so go look at ‘em and vote.

Here are some films which caught my attention in either the FX Mix (read: Anymation) or Real Time (read: Demoscene) categories which you might enjoy. Note that I’m linking to forum posts for them because in all cases the link to the Bitfilm entry is included there, and in some cases a link to a higher resolution version is also available:

See any others over there that you really liked? Tell us about them at the forum or by a comment here. Thanks!
