  1. Graphic Design: The New Basics - A great online resource to accompany what looks to be a great new book coming in May.
  2. The Art of the Title Sequence - A blog devoted to… exactly what it sounds like. Good stuff.
  3. iClone 3 Screenshots - The latest glimpse at the upcoming release, thank you Peter Edwards for the pictures.
  4. Antics 3.1 now works with Google Sketchup. I told you this was going to get interesting.
  5. Moviestorm Update 1.0.4. Features a magnificent list of fixes and improvements.
  6. GTA IV Cameo by Ricky Gervais - One of my favorite comedians / performers of this generation will be lending his personality, voice, and material to the next Grand Theft Auto. Someone should start up a blog documenting celebrity voiceover and/or character work in video games; the list would be surprisingly long.
  7. Daz Studio goes 2.1. The amazing free 3d app gets even better.
  8. FreakAngels Episode 0010. Is anyone else enjoying the heck out of this?

  1. Machinima.com: Faceposer Video Tutorials - An ongoing series, taking it from the beginning.
  2. Carlos Baena: Amazing list of animation resources - Thanks, Spline Doctors.
  3. NextGen: The Value of a Good Writer - Talked about in the context of video games, but has great machinima relevance.
  4. BoingBoing: Reviewing the Real World as if it were a MMO - Funny stuff. For some reason makes me think of one of the essays in Eco’s Misreadings, the one with the publisher’s rejection letters for works of classic literature.
  5. Pineapple Chunks: Machinima and a Second Life - Seems like filmmaker who gives a serious look to SL (i.e. beyond the red light districts) comes to this kind of conclusion.
  6. VFX World: The Digital Eye: Gaming as the Driving Technological Force - My friends at Bioware will love this one. :)
  7. Cinemassively: Avatar Puppeteering possibly coming to Second Life in 2008 - A dream come true for those who prefer a hermit approach. Interested in this digital puppetry topic? Check out Andrew’s Machin-X blog devoted to just that.
  8. Motionographer: Lo-Fi Tron - Nice mix of stop motion with live action.

  1. Behind the Workflow: Unreal Tournament 3 on CG Society. (they also have a little write-up on the design of Team Fortress 2)
  2. Machinima For Dummies - 2007 Year in Review (part 1 and part 2). A thought-provoking read.
  3. Machinima For Dummies - Hugh and Johnnie’s favorite machinima from 2007

  5. How to Create a 4-Legged Animal in iClone tutorial by Paul Louis (MyClones for iClone)
  6. DiVAS, a new comedy series by Phaylen. Perhaps the most effective comedy I’ve seen executed in Second Life. 2 episodes so far, more to come.
  7. Mike Jones on Writing for Sound. Episode 3 of his Motion Sketches video series, produced in cooperation with Celtx. Essential, insightful advice for video producers.
  8. Blahbalicious on Stage6 - A timeless classic from the earliest days of machinima, as good as it has ever looked (since it was watched in the Quake engine itself). *You may have to be logged in to Stage6 to even see the vid; contains adult language.

  1. Moviestorm Green/Blue Screen Addon (FREE).One of the first user-made addons for Moviestorm, made by yours truly.
  2. Moviestorm User Image Dimension List - What should be a handy reference for those wanting to bring custom images into Moviestorm surfaces that support them. No hacking or Mod Workshop required.
  3. REVIEW: We Are The Strange on DVD by Ricky Grove at Renderosity - A great read, and superb commentary on the film’s director, who is one of my modern day heroes.
  4. Perspective on the $$ Value of Machinima - Geoffrey James (Kephren), producer of the full-length machinima feature Borg War, reveals some very interesting info, and presents a thought-provoking argument that could be made for getting game companies behind machinima… if they’d listen.
  5. REVIEW: The Snow Witch - Robert Jones (Stranger109) is back, this time talking about the Britannica Dreams masterpiece.
  6. The Future of Motion Capture? - Beowulf has everyone talking about mocap suits and whether animators will be made obselete… (the answer is a vehement NO, but that’s probably best saved for its own post)
  7. dotSUB.com - An interesting Web 2.0 approach to the challenge of translations, this is a video sharing site which allows you to basically “open source” the creation of your international subtitles. (Thanks, RonAmok)
  8. Poser 7 Revealed - A fantastic set of tutorials at VFXWorld, to help one learn and make the most of Poser.

  1. Text, Drugs & Rock ‘n’ Roll - An insightful analysis of interactive storytelling, how it is most in tune with who we are as beings and what we expect from life.
  2. Free Pixel - What makes a machinima film ‘good’? See the comments, too!
  3. mPATHx - I’ve been following development on this piece of hardware for a few years; I’m told it is now very close to hitting market. Could be tremendously valuable for anyone who deals with a lot of onboard gear for either music or even machinima and home entertainment setups.
  4. FILM: A GMan Story (Take 2) - It’s rough. It’s downright amateurish. And it’s a JOY to watch. (particularly for fans of the Half-Life series of games, like me)
  5. Paul Lewis’ iClone Character Creation Video Tutorials - A master iClone character designer, and a great teacher.
  6. iClone 2.5 Video Tutorials by James Martin - Ready your pause button, these tutorials are traveling at the Speed Of James. Phenomenal stuff.
  7. Video Tutorials on Google Sketchup from the author of Google SketchUp for Dummies
  8. Torley Linden’s Guide to High Quality Second Life Photography - Very useful info for those wanting to capture a good image in this virtual world.
