Work In Process - September 8, 2010

A taste of a scene from the second chapter of Umbra which is at long last starting to come together. This is the third engine engaged for this short (I tried Second Life, then Moviestorm, then iClone, and now back to Moviestorm with a new approach to lighting and some post filtering), I've finally got something on the screen that is close to matching the image in my head.

Umbra, you may or may not recall, is a multi-chapter exploration of our darker nature. The chapters are thematically related but not narratively connected.

Mucking about with those who cannot bleat

As I work on a "silent picture" comedy of my own, I find great inspiration in works like Shaun the Sheep, a simply brilliant BBC stop motion series from the creators of Wallace and Gromit.

You Know Who

Even time lords are having a tough time in this economy.

Unpredictable Behavior

I was at first a bit put off by the accents in this, not to mention the pristine condition of the Baker Street flat, but where they take this short is such a delight that by the end I forgave all.

Eye

This ad (featuring original music) was released as part of the First premiere last weekend, to promote the ZS Eyes #1 Content Pack for Moviestorm.

Celtx Learning Series: "Welcome to Machinima"

ZS Newsletter subscribers got an early heads up on this: my upcoming series, STONE, is the featured subject of a media-annotated screenplay project I did with Celtx this year. They're featuring it as part of their new Celtx Learning Series, an endeavor to show hands-on examples of the Celtx pre-production software in action.

FIRST Premiere Date Set

I am happy to announce that First is complete! The film will make its public premiere as part of a very special event at TMU Theater on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. EST (that's 9:00 a.m. PST, and I believe 5:00 p.m. GMT - but double check your time zone with your favorite world time clock to be sure).

Saturday Training Cancelled (Postponed)

After some soul searching, I've decided to cancel this Saturday's Moviestorm training class while I reevaluate both the tech and the pricing. I've been very unhappy with the experience I provided in the free course, and really feel a need to retool before moving forward with more training - particularly training someone is going to pay money to attend.

I have notified all people registered to attend, and have processed refunds for them.

She hasn't touched her soup.

Machinima Expo 2010 starts accepting entries on June 1, 2010.

Dragon Age: Warden's Fall

Jason Choi and I don't see eye to eye much lately.

We're both type A personalities, we're both highly opinionated. And when Jason totally dissed the "anymation" concept as a waste on his blog a couple years ago, I got really ticked off.

But I don't have to be Jason's best buddy to recognize his ridiculous level of talent. And that's what shines in this film produced by Machinima.com.
