Rocket launchers most absolutely DID (and DO) blast you up in the air in Quake 2. In fact, rocket jumping was quite prominent behavior in Quake 2, well before Quake3Arena was ever released. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the physics which allowed rocket jumping were actually toned DOWN a bit in Q3A compared to Quake2.

I was never as good at taking advantage of the physics as these players, but I know the demos used to make the video are legitimate unaltered gameplay demos made by the Quake done Quick speed-running team.

The bouncing off the walls, by the way, took place during Quad rocket blasts / jumps. If you think that doesn't generate enough force to bounce you off walls, then you've never fired a rocket with Quad in Quake 2.
