Reveal

Reveal

This one minute experiment was for a challenge on the Britannica Dreams forum. The parameters were: one minute runtime limit, The Sims 2 engine, and no Sims present in the film. I used this as an excuse to try some experiments with smoothing the camera movements in this engine. This was also an opportunity to test a "vignette" idea I've been toying with for awhile where a one shot scene is gradually revealed to communicate layers of detail, the basic idea being that as the camera moves, the meaning of the scene is constantly evolving.

  1. Great work Phil.

A nice slow pan. Good approach to the challenge.

I think the cieling tiles would have been better left off, and instead make the walls a second level. Those tiles just arent pretty enough. Great little coda with door. Great work.

  2. Yeah, the ceiling tiles frustrated me. There actually is a second story to the set which was built with this in mind, but I couldn’t get the lighting to behave properly between stories. I’ll definitely be researching both phenomena before next time.

Thanks very much for the comments!

  3. I really like that, the camera movement was extremely smooth and since I didn’t read the info before I watched,:-\ it was really intriguing.
Great job for that theme too.

  6. Thanks for watching, wren! As for the song, stay tuned, a “Goodie Bag” for Reveal and other films is in production, and will include any original soundtrack selections.
