HOW TO: Embed YouTube / Vimeo Videos Here

I've created some custom BBCODE functions to allow the embedding of videos from YouTube and Vimeo right into your post. You should now see "vimeo=" and "youtube=" buttons atop your post text box. Hover over them for hints on format, and click them to imprint the code template into your post.

Here's how it works.

For YouTube, you enter:
[youtube=http://URL]Title[/youtube]

For Vimeo, you enter:
[vimeo=http://URL]Title[/vimeo]

Example:

[vimeo=http://www.vimeo.com/388882]Overman's Ad Absurdum, part 3[/vimeo] yields:

[vimeo=http://www.vimeo.com/388882]Overman's Ad Absurdum, part 3[/vimeo]

It puts the title in bold atop the video, and below it is a link to the original source page.

NOTE that you are NOT pasting the actual embed code from these websites, merely the URL (web address) for the video.

I'm not sure how this will function with playlists / albums, but I've tested and confirmed they both work with single videos.

How long does it take to upload a youtube video? Im currently uploading about a 4ish-5ish minute video onto my youtube and its been taking like 20 minutes and im still waiting. I havent used youtube to upload in ages, and I swear I remember when i last used it, that it look like 40 seconds to upload a video.

Upload time depends on a number of factors, esp. the speed of your connection, the size of the video. Twenty minutes seems like a long time for a very short video, but for one of medium length at HD resolution it's not terribly unusual.

However, I have found that some web browsers are susceptible to "hang" during the process of YouTube upload, giving you the impression that the upload is still in progress but in fact it has timed out or failed. I haven't documented my findings there, but my recommendation would be to try a different web browser and see if your experience with uploading there improves. For example, if you are using Internet Explorer and having this issue, then try either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome and see if you have a better time with it. If you're using Firefox, try one of the other two. And so on.

You might also double check and make sure you have the latest Flash plugin installed, as I've seen an outdated or corrupt Flash plugin sometimes get in the way of an upload. You can check your Flash version here: [url]http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html[/url]
